What to Expect This Year
Last Rites and Live Wire, in association with Kuma’s Corner and PBR, proudly announce this year’s event. Sean Duffy, owner of Last Rites Promotions and Management, expressed his excitement for this year’s Heavy Chicago II, highlighting the success of last year’s inaugural event. He is thrilled to return to the vibrant Avondale neighborhood, recognized by Time Out as one of the world’s most buzzing areas. Duffy emphasized the stellar lineup, featuring Chicago’s doom masters Bongripper and the legendary post-metal band Pelican on Friday, supported by rising stars like Wraith, Avernus, and Motherless.
Saturday’s headliner, Earth Crisis, will be joined by special guests Jasta and the grindcore supergroup EarthBurner, with The Crosses performing a special all-“Die Kreuzen” set featuring Dan Kubinski. Usurper will make their long-awaited return, with Masonic Wave opening the night. Sunday promises an unforgettable finish with Cynic’s much-anticipated return to Chicago, supported by Pissing Razors, black metal legends Profanatica, and a special set from The Skull dedicated to Trouble fans. The evening will also feature performances by Putrid Pile, Lurid, and “Heavy Local” 2023 winners Exegesis.
The Birth of Heavy Chicago
The inaugural Heavy Chicago festival last year was a massive hit, bringing together an impressive lineup of metal legends and rising stars. Held at the newly opened Avondale Music Hall, the festival spanned two weekends with headliners like Trouble, Acid King, and Corrosion of Conformity. The event also featured special performances from bands like Bongzilla, Nebula, and DRI, making it a memorable start for what is now set to become an annual tradition.
