What transpires is a vibrant set of songs that take audiences on a journey, reminiscent of Glen Hansard, Jeff Tweedy, and Lord Huron.The lyrics can be introspective and observational, exploring the world in all its intimacy, joy, and sorrow, but also cutting and political with songs about unions, housing, and the plight of refugees. He combines intricate guitar and banjo work with shifting arrangements and his soulful voice to make a whole that can be alternately driving and soothing.Since 2019, Ryan has released several EPs and a full-length album, building a loyal fan base in Chicago and throughout the Midwest. He has also performed at some of the citys most iconic music venues, including the Metro, Beat Kitchen, and The Hideout. Ryans live shows, accompanied by his band, The Vocal Ghosts, blend the raw energy of a Midwest alt-country show with the intimate storytelling you might hear in a songwriter round in Nashville.In addition to his own music, Ryan also plays with the Australian singer-songwriter Tom West, and Chicago bands Distant Brothers, Cat Mullins and the Holy Lonesome, and Musichigan.
